Specialty Nutritionals
Tatua's Specialty Nutritionals product range includes a variety of protein hydrolysates and highly purified bioactive proteins and peptides with an extensive range of biological functions. Potential applications for these products include sport and enteral nutrition, infant formulae, meal replacement and mineral supplementation.
We are able to provide customers with high-specification products as a result of continued investment in technically advanced and flexible processing capabilities.
Key technologies available on-site at Tatua include:
- Chromatography for fractionation and purification of target proteins or peptides
- Enzymatic protein hydrolysis for release of target peptides and amino acids
- Ultra filtration for the concentration and purification of protein solutions
- Reverse osmosis for concentration of protein by removal of water without heat
- Large-scale freeze dryers, which ensure the activity of high value heat-sensitive products is retained
- The wide variety of technologies and our flexibility enables us to work in close partnership with our customers to co-develop specialty products, and also as a contract manufacturer
Lactoferrin
Lactoferrin is an iron-binding protein found naturally in many bodily secretions, including milk, tears, mucus, blood and saliva. It has an extensive range of biological properties including:
Bacteriostatic and bactericidal agent; antifungal (against Candida) and antiparasitic; natural antioxidant and immunomodulatory properties.
Glycomacropeptide
GMP is a large, glycosylated, heat-stable peptide cleaved from kappa-casein by the action of chymosin. Many of its biological properties are associated with the presence of sialic acid residues. Its properties include high level of glycosylation; antibacterial; antiviral adhesion; anti-toxin; modulator of digestive hormones; low level of aromatic amino acids and high levels of branched chain amino acids.
Lactoperoxidase
Lactoperoxidase is the most prominent enzyme found in milk. In combination with its cofactors peroxide and thiocyanate, it forms the lactoperoxidase system, which has potent antibacterial activity against Listeria and E. coli. Lactoperoxidase is commercially available as a freeze-dried powder of defined activity.
Protein hydrolysates
We manufacture a wide range of dairy (casein, whey) and non-dairy (wheat, soy) protein hydrolysates and bioactive peptides for specialised nutritional applications. Compared to intact proteins, hydrolysates have improved solubility, enhanced heat and acid stability and reduced viscosity, especially compared with casein.
